Meet EU compliance requirements

Cookie consent, Omnibus price history, and the EU right of withdrawal — what they are and how to switch them on.

Selling into the EU comes with a few specific obligations. YNS has built-in features for the main ones, gathered under Settings → Legal & Compliance alongside your legal pages.

If your store address is in Europe, cookie consent and Omnibus were enabled automatically when your store was created, and you'll see a note on the page telling you so.

A GDPR-compliant cookie consent banner on your storefront, letting visitors choose before non-essential cookies are set. Turn it on with a single switch.

If you run tracking or advertising pixels, this is not optional in the EU — those are exactly the cookies consent rules exist for.

Omnibus Directive

The EU Omnibus Directive says that when you advertise a price reduction, you must show the lowest price the product was sold at in the previous 30 days. It exists to stop the old trick of inflating a price the week before a "sale".

Enabling Omnibus Directive makes your store record price history and calculate that lowest-price-in-30-days figure for you.

Caution: Turning Omnibus off after it's been in use permanently deletes the historical pricing data behind it. That history can't be reconstructed, so don't toggle it casually.

If you run promotions or discount codes and sell in the EU, leave this on.

Right of withdrawal

EU consumers have 14 days to withdraw from most distance purchases. Enable the Withdrawal Button module and eligible orders get a withdrawal action on the customer's order page, so shoppers can exercise that right without emailing you first.

It applies to orders that are paid, processing, shipped, or completed, within the withdrawal window.

If you sell in more than one language, each legal page has its own language versions. The Legal & Compliance page shows where each stands:

You can edit any version, set the label it uses in your navigation, view it on your storefront, or reset to default to replace it with the standard template. Resetting can't be undone.

FAQ

Do these features make me compliant?

They give you the mechanics — a consent banner, price history, a withdrawal action. What your business is required to do depends on where you and your customers are. If you're unsure, get professional advice; this is one of the areas where it's worth it.

I don't sell in the EU. Do I need any of this?

Probably not all of it, though cookie rules apply in more places than people expect, and a clear returns policy helps everywhere. Turn on what's relevant to your markets.

Does the withdrawal button replace my returns policy?

No. It's a specific EU right that sits alongside your own returns policy, which can be more generous but not less.

Will the Omnibus figure show on my product pages?

Enabling it starts the price history that the lowest-price-in-30-days figure is calculated from. Give it time to build up before you run your first sale.
