Send back-in-stock alerts
Let shoppers ask to be told when a sold-out product returns — and have the email go out by itself the moment you restock.
A sold-out product usually means a lost sale. It doesn't have to. With restock notifications, shoppers who find an out-of-stock item can leave their email, and they hear the moment it's back — an audience that has already decided they want it.
Turn it on
Open Settings → Modules and enable Restock Notifications. A request option appears on out-of-stock products, and a Restock Notifications entry appears in your sidebar (also listed under Newsletter).
Alerts send themselves
You don't have to remember to do anything. When a product that was at zero goes back above zero — however you update it, whether that's editing the product, an inventory update, or a bulk change — everyone waiting on that exact variant is emailed automatically.
Each person is only ever mailed once per restock. If the product sells out again, their request is re-armed, so the next time you restock they're told again.
Tip: Update the stock number once the goods are genuinely on the shelf. Because the email goes out on that change, entering stock you haven't received yet sends people to a page that sells out again immediately.
Notify people by hand
The Restock Notifications page lists every request, showing:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Product | What they're waiting for |
| Variant | Which size, color, or option — or the default variant |
| Requested at | When they asked |
| Notified at | When they were told, if they have been |
You rarely need this page to send anything, but the manual path is still there: select any requests still showing as not notified and choose Send notifications. It's the way to retry if an email couldn't be delivered, or to reach a waiting list on a product you restocked before the module was switched on.
Read the list as a demand signal
Requests are the clearest demand data you'll get. A product with a long waiting list is one to reorder in depth; a variant nobody asks about is one to stop restocking. Check the list before you place your next purchase order.
FAQ
Are notifications sent automatically when stock returns?
Yes. Bringing a sold-out variant back above zero emails everyone waiting on it, with no action from you. The module has to be enabled for this to happen — a restock while it's switched off leaves the requests pending, and you can send those by hand later.
What if more people are waiting than I have stock for?
Everyone waiting is emailed at once, so the first to click buys. If you only received a handful of units and want to stagger it, add the stock in small batches — each batch that lifts the variant off zero triggers its own send.
Someone was never emailed. Why?
A request only reaches someone once per restock, and a send that fails leaves the request pending rather than marking it done. Open Restock Notifications, look for rows with no Notified at, and send those by hand.
Do people who sign up become newsletter subscribers?
A restock request is a request about one product. Growing your mailing list is a separate opt-in — see Send newsletters & grow subscribers.
Where do I mark something as back in stock?
Update stock levels on the product or from your inventory — see Manage inventory.
