A product page is a good place to suggest one more thing: the shopper is already looking at something they like. **Suggested products** let you choose exactly which products appear there, instead of leaving it to whatever sits in the same category.

## Pick the suggestions

1. Open **Catalog → Products** and open a product, or start a new one.
2. On the **Details** tab, scroll to **Suggested products** (below the variants and custom fields).
3. Search for a product and click it to add it. Add as many as you like, up to 12.
4. Drag the rows into the order you want them shown, and use the **×** on a row to remove it.
5. Click **Save**.

Each row shows a **Draft**, **Hidden** or **Out of stock** label when that product won't show up as you'd expect – see below.

> **Tip:** Pick things that go *with* the product, not copies of it. A shopper looking at a cheese is more likely to add a wine or a cracker than a second, similar cheese.

## What shoppers see

Your storefront's "You might also like" section shows your picks first, in your order. Then it fills the remaining places with products from the same category (including its subcategories), or from the whole store when the product has no category. A product with no picks keeps showing products from its category, as before.

Some picks are skipped so shoppers only see what they can buy right now:

| Your pick is… | On the product page |
|---|---|
| Published and in stock | Shown |
| **Hidden** | Shown – you picked it on purpose, so it appears here even though it's unlisted elsewhere |
| **Draft** | Skipped until you publish it |
| **Out of stock** | Skipped until it's back in stock |

Skipped picks stay on your list and come back on their own. That's why you can keep up to 12: the spare ones step in when one runs out.

Suggestions work one way. Adding a wine to the cheese's list doesn't add the cheese to the wine's list. Deleting a product removes it from every list, and duplicating a product or a whole store copies its suggestions.

## Let Elliot pick them

Elliot can set suggestions for you. Ask, for example, "suggest products for the Corsican cheese". When Elliot creates a new product for you, it offers a few suggestions on its own and saves them only when you say **Set these**. When it adds many products at once, it asks once at the end instead.

## Older storefronts

Storefronts built before suggested products came out keep showing products from the same category, even after you pick suggestions. To switch yours over, ask Elliot: "Show my suggested products on the product page." It updates the storefront in the preview, and you publish when you're happy with it.

## FAQ

### Can I import suggestions from a spreadsheet?

Not yet. [Product import](/help/products/import-products) doesn't carry suggested products, so set them in the product editor, through Elliot, or through the API.

### How is this different from cart recommendations?

Suggested products are chosen by you, product by product, and show on the product page. [Cart recommendations](/help/marketing/cart-recommendations) are picked automatically from what's already in the cart and show in the cart.

### Can I set them through the API?

Yes – send `relatedProductIds` when you create or update a product, and read the shopper-ready list from `GET /api/v1/products/{idOrSlug}/related`. See the [products API reference](/docs/api-reference/products#suggested-products).
