Checkout is the last thing between a shopper and a sale, and it's where trust matters most. A checkout that looks like the rest of your store reassures people that they're still in the right place. **Settings → Checkout** is where you shape it.

## Style the page

Changes preview instantly as you make them and save automatically.

**Layout**

| Setting | What it does |
|---------|--------------|
| **Order summary position** | Puts the summary on the left or the right |
| **Show store header** | Displays your store header at the top of checkout |
| **Show policy links** | Links your legal pages from the checkout page |
| **Express wallets** | Offers Apple Pay and Google Pay for one-tap payment |

**Style**

| Setting | What it does |
|---------|--------------|
| **Font** | Your storefront font, or a different one for checkout |
| **Summary background** | A tint, plain, or a custom color |
| **Corner radius** | None, small, medium, or large – match your store's look |

**Pay button**

Choose the wording – **Pay now**, **Complete order**, or **Place order** – and set its background and text colors, or keep your theme's defaults.

> **Tip:** Leave express wallets on. Apple Pay and Google Pay remove the whole card-typing step, which is exactly where mobile shoppers give up.

## Add checkout consents

Consents are the checkboxes a customer sees during checkout. Add as many as you need, write the text yourself – including links to your terms and privacy policy – and drag them into the order you want.

Each consent has two switches:

| Option | What it means |
|--------|---------------|
| **Required to complete purchase** | The customer can't pay without ticking it |
| **Newsletter opt-in** | Anyone who accepts is added as a subscriber |

> **Tip:** Keep required consents to the minimum you genuinely need. Every extra checkbox is another reason to hesitate – and a newsletter opt-in should never be one of the required ones.

## FAQ

### Do I need a terms consent at all?

Many stores add one for terms and privacy, and in some markets it's expected. What's required depends on where you and your customers are – see [Legal & compliance](/help/account/compliance).

### Can I add a customer to my mailing list at checkout?

Yes, with a consent marked as a newsletter opt-in. Everyone who ticks it becomes a subscriber – see [Send newsletters & grow subscribers](/help/marketing/newsletters-and-subscribers).

### Why don't my changes appear on checkout?

They save automatically, so try a hard refresh of your storefront. If it still looks wrong, check you're viewing the live store rather than a cached preview.

### Can I change the fields customers fill in?

The checkout fields are the ones needed to take payment and ship the order. What you control is the styling, the consents, and which payment options appear.
