The OpenAI Ads add-on tells OpenAI what shoppers do on your store after they click one of your ads in ChatGPT: which products they look at, what they add to the cart, and which orders they place. OpenAI Ads Manager uses that to show which ads bring in sales.

It is one half of advertising in ChatGPT. The [OpenAI product feed](/help/integrations/product-feeds#ai-shopping-assistants) tells OpenAI what you sell. The pixel tells it what happened after the click. Set up both.

## Before you start

- **An OpenAI Ads Manager account** for your business.
- **The OpenAI product feed** added to Ads Manager, so your ads have products to show. See [Sync your catalog with product feeds](/help/integrations/product-feeds).

## Get your Pixel ID and Conversions API key

1. In OpenAI Ads Manager, open the **Conversions** tab.
2. Create a pixel (OpenAI also calls it a data source) and copy its **Pixel ID**.
3. On the same tab, create a **Conversions API key** and copy it. The key is optional, but without it you miss some sales. See [Count sales the pixel misses](#count-sales-the-pixel-misses).

## Connect the add-on

1. In YNS, open **Add-ons** and choose **OpenAI Ads**.
2. Paste the ID into **Pixel ID**.
3. Paste the key into **Conversions API key**, if you created one.
4. Click **Save**.

The pixel starts loading on your storefront and your checkout straight away.

## What OpenAI receives

With only the Pixel ID, the OpenAI Measurement Pixel runs in the shopper's browser and reports:

- **Page views** on your storefront and checkout
- **Product views** when a shopper opens a product page
- **Add to cart**
- **Checkout started** when a shopper reaches checkout
- **Completed orders**

## Count sales the pixel misses

The pixel runs in the shopper's browser. An ad blocker can stop it, and a shopper who closes the tab right after paying may leave before it reports the order. Each lost order makes your ads look worse than they are.

With the Conversions API key saved, YNS also sends every completed order to OpenAI from our servers. That copy arrives whatever happens in the browser.

The browser and the server send the same order ID, so OpenAI counts each order once.

### Orders placed inside ChatGPT

A shopper who buys through ChatGPT Instant Checkout never opens your store in a browser, so the pixel has nothing to report. With the Conversions API key saved, YNS still reports those orders to OpenAI from our servers. Without the key, OpenAI does not hear about them from your store.

## How OpenAI connects a sale to an ad

When a shopper clicks one of your ads, OpenAI adds an `oppref` parameter to the link. The pixel remembers it for 30 days. If that shopper orders within those 30 days, YNS sends the `oppref` with the server-side copy of the order, so OpenAI can credit the sale to the ad they clicked.

## Cookie consent

If your store shows the cookie consent banner, the pixel loads only after the shopper accepts. A shopper who declines is not reported to OpenAI at all, neither from their browser nor from our servers. The same applies to a shopper whose browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.

If you sell in the EU, turn the banner on and mention OpenAI Ads in your privacy policy. See [Meet EU compliance requirements](/help/account/compliance).

## Remove the add-on

1. Open **Add-ons → OpenAI Ads**.
2. Clear **Pixel ID** and click **Save**.

The pixel stops loading, YNS stops sending orders to OpenAI, and the add-on is removed from your store.

## FAQ

### Do I need the Conversions API key?

The pixel works without it. Add the key if you want orders counted when an ad blocker stops the pixel, when a shopper closes the tab after paying, and when a shopper buys inside ChatGPT.

### Will an order be counted twice if both the pixel and the server report it?

No. Both copies carry the same order ID, and OpenAI keeps one.

### Can I run OpenAI Ads and the Meta Pixel at the same time?

Yes. Each add-on reports to its own platform. See [Add tracking and pixels](/help/integrations/tracking-and-pixels) for the Meta Pixel.

### Does the add-on report orders from before I connected it?

No. Reporting starts with the first order after you save the Pixel ID.
